Good news for Odin 2 owners: the whole family, the standard Odin 2, the Odin 2 Portal and the Odin 2 Mini, runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with an Adreno 740. That is squarely inside the GPU class the DroidDeck README supports, so every model is a candidate for running Steam games with Valve's Proton.
Odin 2, Odin 2 Portal, Odin 2 Mini
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 · Adreno 740. Same chip across every model and memory configuration.
Odin 3 (newer)
Snapdragon 8 Elite · Adreno 830. AYN's successor, also in the supported class and the faster chip.
The Odin 2 family at a glance
| Model | Screen | Memory / storage | Battery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odin 2 | 6" IPS LCD, 1920 × 1080 | Base 8 GB / 128 GB · Pro 12 GB / 256 GB · Max 16 GB / 512 GB | 8,000 mAh |
| Odin 2 Portal | 7" OLED, 1920 × 1080, 120 Hz | Base 8 GB / 128 GB · Pro 12 GB / 512 GB · Max 16 GB / 1 TB | 8,000 mAh (most listings) |
| Odin 2 Mini | 5" mini-LED | 8 GB / 128 GB · 12 GB / 256 GB | — |
All three use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage, and the Odin 2 and Portal have a microSD slot. A dash means we could not confirm the figure from a reliable source. The standard Odin 2 shipped with Android 13.
Why the Odin 2 suits DroidDeck
DroidDeck runs Valve's Steam client and Valve's ARM64 Proton, so the GPU matters most, and the Adreno 740 is one of the GPUs the project is built around. The rest of the Odin 2 design helps too. It has built-in controls laid out much like a console controller, active cooling, and a large 8,000 mAh battery on the standard model and the Portal. PC games through Proton keep the chip busy for long stretches, so cooling and battery capacity matter more here than they do for emulating older consoles.
HeldGames' DroidDeck guide reports that a handheld's built-in controls appear to Steam as a Steam Deck controller, including the Quick Access button and gyro, so Steam Input profiles made for the Deck generally make sense on the Odin. Unlike the AYN Thor, the Odin 2 has a single screen, so DroidDeck's option to use a second screen as back grips and trackpads does not apply.
Setting up DroidDeck on an Odin 2
The general steps are in our DroidDeck install guide. On an Odin 2, pay attention to three things:
- Check your Android version. Open Settings › About. On Android 12 or 13, start Steam once from DroidDeck and use the Fix it for me button it shows. On Android 14 or newer, turn on Disable child process restrictions in Developer options before launching Steam. Skipping this is the usual reason Steam closes the moment it starts.
- Plan storage on the 128 GB models. DroidDeck's runtime needs about 3 GB, plus 1.1 GB for the optional desktop and emulators. On a 128 GB Base or Mini that leaves little room for PC games. On models with a microSD slot, add a card as a Steam library; SD card libraries are supported since DroidDeck 0.3.2.
- Start with a light game. Confirm that Steam, Proton and your controls work with a smaller title before downloading a large one. If a game will not start, try another Proton version in its Steam properties; the troubleshooting guide lists more fixes.
Which Odin 2 model is best for DroidDeck?
- Odin 2 Portal if you are choosing for PC games: the 7-inch, 120 Hz OLED screen is the most comfortable for Steam's Big Picture mode, and the Pro and Max have generous storage.
- Standard Odin 2 for the best value: same chip, same 8,000 mAh battery, with a 6-inch IPS screen.
- Odin 2 Mini if portability comes first. The smaller 5-inch screen makes small text in PC games harder to read.
- Prefer the Pro or Max memory tiers if you can: 12 or 16 GB of RAM and more storage give Windows games through Proton more headroom.
Odin 2 or Odin 3?
AYN's successor, the Odin 3, uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite with an Adreno 830, a newer GPU generation that the DroidDeck README also supports. Press coverage at its announcement lists a 6-inch 1080p 120 Hz AMOLED screen and an 8,000 mAh battery. If you are buying a handheld for DroidDeck today, the Odin 3 is the faster option. If you already own an Odin 2, there is no compatibility reason to upgrade: it remains in the supported GPU class.
What we know about real-world results
We have not found published, game-by-game DroidDeck results for any Odin 2 model yet, and we have not tested one ourselves. Treat claims of "verified" Odin 2 support on other sites with care: the DroidDeck README publishes a GPU rule, not a list of verified devices, and says hardware validation is limited. The project collects device reports on its Discord; if something breaks, attach the zip from Share logs. We will add our own test results here, with the DroidDeck version, Proton version, settings and frame rates.
AYN Odin 2 questions
Does DroidDeck work on the AYN Odin 2?
Every Odin 2 model, including the Mini and the Portal, uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with an Adreno 740 GPU, which is in the class the DroidDeck README supports.
Which Odin 2 is best for DroidDeck?
They share the same chip, so performance should be similar. The Portal's 7-inch 120 Hz OLED screen is the nicest for PC games, the standard Odin 2 has the same 8,000 mAh battery at a lower price, and the Mini trades screen size for portability.
Should I buy an Odin 2 or an Odin 3 for DroidDeck?
The Odin 3 uses the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite with an Adreno 830, also supported. It is the faster choice if you are buying new; an Odin 2 you already own is still in the supported class.
Do I need the Fix it for me button on the Odin 2?
The Odin 2 shipped with Android 13. On Android 12 and 13, DroidDeck offers a Fix it for me button the first time Steam starts. On Android 14 and newer, turn on Disable child process restrictions in Developer options instead.
Has anyone tested DroidDeck on the Odin 2?
We have not found published, game-by-game test results for the Odin 2 yet, and we have not tested it ourselves. Device reports are collected on the project's Discord.
